Split Pea & Ham Soup

A rich, creamy split pea soup infused with smoky ham flavor.

Ingredients
  • Butter -- 1/4 cup
  • Onions, small diced -- 2 cup
  • Celery, small diced -- 1/2 cup
  • Carrots, small diced -- 1/2 cup
  • Garlic, minced -- 1 Tbsp
  • Ham, smoked, small diced -- 12 oz
  • Flour, all purpose -- 2/3 cup
  • Water -- 1 gal
  • Minor's Ham Base Gluten Free (No Added MSG)* -- 1/3 cup
  • Split green peas, dried, rinsed -- 5 cup
Preparation

    In a large soup pot over medium heat, melt butter. Add onions, celery, carrots, garlic, and ham. Sauté 5-7 minutes until tender.

    Blend in flour, cooking over medium heat 2-3 minutes, stirring constantly. Slowly add water while stirring.

    Add Ham Base and split peas. Stir to combine. Heat to a full boil and reduce heat to a gentle boil. Continue cooking 40-50 minutes until peas are tender. Remove from heat.

    Remove half of the soup and puree in blender. Return puree to soup pot. Keep warm for service.
Serving Suggestions/Variations

Garnish with diced ham or crème fraîche.

*No added MSG other than that which naturally occurs in the hydrolyzed proteins and autolyzed yeast extract.
