Creating Shared Value
Creating Shared Value is a fundamental business principle at Nestlé Professional. It’s our approach to ensuring long-term company success, while shaping a better, healthier world for society.
Stewards of People, Communities, and the Planet
Sustainability is a big part of Creating Shared Value. But our approach goes beyond conserving natural resources for future generations. Shared value also focuses on enhancing the quality of life for individuals and families as well as developing strong, thriving communities.

Rural Development and Responsible Sourcing: Coffee
We are committed to supply chain excellence with the Nestlé coffee plan. From distributing millions of plantlets, to working with rural farmers, we offer support to our international partners.
Nestlé pledges to transform all of its sites worldwide to zero-waste-to-landfill facilities by 2020. As of 2017, 47 of 77 facilities in the U.S. are zero-landfill. This includes the Minor’s factory in Cleveland, Ohio. It produces flavorful bases and sauces, while maintaining socially responsible operations.
Nestlé Hot Cocoa
The cocoa supply chain has many environmental and social challenges. Since Nestlé buys around 414,000 tons of cocoa annually, it developed the Nestlé Cocoa Plan. The approach helps improve the lives of cocoa farmers and the quality of their products, while also assuring a sustainable cocoa supply for products like Nestlé Hot Cocoa.
The world needs a plan to help coffee farmers, their communities and our planet – and NESCAFÉ has one. We call it Grown Respectfully. NESCAFÉ is leading the biggest, most ambitious coffee sustainability program in the world. Our ambition is for all our coffee to taste fresh and be Responsibly Sourced.
Through the Nestlé Cocoa Plan, we rely on more than 5 million rural farmers to supply the raw materials needed for our products. Responsible sourcing is an important investment in the future of Nestlé as well as the producers and suppliers we depend on.
